Issue 06 – My worst mistake that cost me 1 year 😥

Share post:

Around 2018, when I took SaaS projects for the first time, I took all kinds of projects in any shape, size or budget.

Why?

To create a decent portfolio to attract high-paying clients later. It helped but there is this one project that cost me 1 entire year 😐

It’s not because of the scope of work, budget, or anything.

The mistake was, not taking a pause and showing all the cards to the client 😶

Sounds weird? Let me explain.

During discovery meetings, I always have this urge to answer when asked a question.

In doing that, I become too excited and share everything I know 🤦🏻‍♂️

This results in saying YES to the things that I don’t want to do and complicating client expectations 😵

As a result, everyone suffers who is involved in project delivery.

I learned this the hard way. It cost me an entire 1 year, money, and losing some of my colleagues 🙁

So, take a step back, be mindful and hold your horses. Then respond, and ask as many questions as you want.

Chances, are you don’t need to ask Qs. Your client will fill the void automatically for you and tell you what you want to know 😉

On the bright side, you will be in control of the conversation, not the client.
